Organ Donation
I was told that because of my lymphoma I cannot donate organs upon my death. I had been told previously that the corneas were an exception but Virginia says that is not rhe case. Anyone know about this topic?

Donation
Shady, my wife donates blood all the time, and I go with her occasionally. I have read American Red Cross literature many times while waiting. Organ cancer patients can sometimes donate after six years cancer-free, but Lymphoma and Leukemia patients are prohibited from donation for life.
The cornea does not have blood circulation, getting its fluids via osmosis with the tear ducts. It may be an exception and opportunity for donation; I guess you would need to contact the Red Cross or FDA to find out for certain.

I checked
At first I was getting a Huh? response. Finally got a call from the Red Cross. Lymphoma and Leukemia patients are indeed banned for life from donating blood or organs. That includes the cornea. Its either burial or cremation for us. I guess the bottom line is it really doesn't matter.

One other Possibility...
The one other possibility I thought of Shady was to donate your body to science. Not saying you should do that but I think that people with blood cancers would be acceptable to science.
Maybe reach out to these folks to see what can be arranged? Fairly sure that corneas can be donated for research and put to good use. https://restoresight.org/cornea-donation/other-uses-for-corneas/

I love the song! And I agree about John Prine. If only it could work that way. . .

Great to hear from you! Here is another great John Prine classic. It was my Mothers favorite song.
