5 Years Down the Road -- NED, Baby!!
One one hand, it seems like my diagnosis in April/May 2014 was such a long time ago. On the other hand, it seems like yesterday. While my tumor was small at 2.9 cm, it was in a tricky location on right kidney. Complicating the situation was the fact that I had extensive abdominal surgery. My first urologist said my entire right kidney would be removed. Thanks to Dr. Paul Russo at Memorial Sloan Kettering, 95% of my right kidney was preserved. Had the results of my 5 year scans today, and everything looked great. I am in the survivorship program now, and I meet with a nurse practitioner once each year for an extensive interview/Q&A about my health.
Life is good, and I am lucky and thankful my tumor was discovered early, for the love and support of my wife and family and the team at Memorial Sloan Kettering. That latter two do not get much better. Top notch.
