Will immunotherapy help repeat base of tongue cancer

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

After throughout 2 years. 2 surgery(1 base of tongue,1 lymps), 35 radiology and 12 chemos , base of tongue cancer growing. Now my father should get immunotherapy and 6 light radiology.  I am completely hopeless. Is this the end ? Will immunotherapy help at all ?

    I sure wouldn't give up hope.

    I sure wouldn't give up hope. Immunotherapy is very big right now and many types are working their way thru clinical trials. Some have actually cured cancers while others have decreased the size or slowed the growth of cancer. If he is in a clinical trial now, he should be closely monitored by a variety of doctors that will be working hard to make sure the treatment succeeds. Make a list of your questions a get them answered by the doctors. Then I would adivse carefully considering following their advice. It's not over yet.

    Hi tigran, cancer produces a

    Hi tigran, cancer produces a kind of wall that prevents your body's immune system (T cells) from seeing it and thus removing it.. Immunotherapy 'removes' that wall and allows the T cells to see the cancer and remove it. I was told that it works for about 30% of patients but it's new and stats are all gathered differently (so I don't worry about them particularly), and anything that helps your body's immune system to fight the cancer is worth a try. Also, it apparently can fight cancer anywhere in the body. Good luck to your dad! I found out that I will be given the opportunity to receive immunotherapy shortly and am feeling very positive from the research that I have done. Your dad needs all your support until he decides that he's had enough- if he's considering more treatment, it sounds like he is not giving up quite yet. Good luck! (laralyn is around here somewhere and she has done well on immunotherapy if you can find her threads- maybe search for Opdivo)

    SORRY FOR DISTURBING YOU. MY FATHER GOT HIS FIRST IMMUNO. FEELS REALLY TIRED,  NO ENERGY WHICH SHOULD BE NORMAL. A LOT OF HEADACHES AND SWALLOWING PROBLEMS. MORE PAIN. SIDE EFFECTS OR TUMOR GROWING. DOCTOR SAID AFTER 3 IMMUNO SHOULD BE CT SCAN. I AM WORRIED IF TUN=MOR GROWING. WHAT SHOULD I DO WAIT OR ASK FOR CT SCAN ? THANK YOU.
