Repeated UTIs 22 years after internal radiation
I had cervical cancer back in 1996. At that time I had a partial hysterectomy due to the Dr. thinking it was pre-cancer. I then had 6 weeks of external radiation and 3 doses of internal radiation. Since that time I have had bowel issues which I have learned to live with. What just started this past year, is a monthly UTI. I have a history of C-Diff so am very apprehensive about antibiotics. I take probiotics, Azo twice daily, vitamin C, drink water and just added D-Mannose powder. I am still getting this infections. They are so much worse then in the past. They come on with full force and a lot of pain. Just had CT, Cystoscopy and Dr. stated, I was very damaged from the radiation and there was nothing more he could do. I am so upset. The only thing he recommended was a low dose of antibiotics daily, or taking them every month when I feel a UTI coming on. Are you kidding me? It is 22 years later and I have to deal with this for the rest of my life? I really can't take it. Has anyone else had this happen? Please help.

mkwins, I suspect the amount
mkwins, I suspect the amount and type of radiation you had is probably very different from what they do today. I remember asking the one tech who told me whe had been doing her job for 20 years if she has seen technology and the way they treat patients change over those years? She said it has changed tremendously, and I remember reading where one survivor had been given COBALT for their radiaiton!
Have you tried working with a dietician??? Maybe they have some suggestions??? A naturopath???? I suspect a doctor would suggest pharma solutions and it sounds like you need some other type of an approach - what have you got to lose? I agree the daily/monthly dose of antibiotics isn't really a solution. I pray you find some answers and relief.

Thanks so much. I would love to find someone. As long as the supplements don't make me go broke.
That is a problem. It really stinks going through this though. I never was told about a lot of this. I already had to have a hip replacement. Due to external radiation.
