Anyone on this trial ? Atezolizumab & Avastin
My Mom just had her 2 month scan appointment today . She started Cabo 60mg on 3/13; she took about 5 days off after 3 weeks. And then did 60 every other day and then on 4/26 started 40 every day. While the kidney tumorshowed no growth, the bone mets in her spine showed some progression & now a new spot on the liver. Her Dr wants her to stop Cabo due to the new liver met.
She is starting atezolizumab and Avastin in 2 weeks. Anyone on this combo ? SE?
Hoping this is the right treatment for her. I had such high hopes for Cabo Especially with bone mets .

No, but at first glance this looks REALLY promising
So in kidney cancer research the scientests are seeing how drugs combine together to become powerful forces (like the old adage 2 is better than one) and after reading about the results of this trial it could become a first line treatment (according to my internet search only, I'm not a doctor). GOOD FOR YOUR MOM!!!

From Roche
"This is the second positive Phase III study that includes TECENTRIQ and Avastin as part of a treatment regimen, providing further evidence to support the potential of this unique combination," said Sandra Horning, M.D., Chief Medical Officer and Head of Global Product Development. "We are encouraged that initial treatment with TECENTRIQ and Avastin significantly reduced the risk of disease worsening or death in people with advanced kidney cancer, while also providing more time before disease symptoms interfere with day-to-day life compared with sunitinib, a current standard of care. We look forward to discussing these results with regulatory authorities worldwide."

Well She was all ready to start the trial Monday , scans & labs done but then they had to evaluate her coccyx wound ( she developed a bedsore from the 2 Spine surgeries) and the oncologist thinks Avastin will be a bad choice in delaying the wound healing. I am not sure if its just his choice or if it disqualified her to be honest? But we now go in 6/7 to discuss the new plan. Nivo/Ipi combo or one or the other possibly .. not sure yet. But this all makes me anxious as she was told to stop cabozantinib 5/17 to have a break before the trial. Her scans showed it progressed to her liver so being without treatment is nerve wracking !
