Thank you to all for great info....
I had a kidney stone in December and when they did an ultrasound, they found an unusual mass (5cm) on my other kidney. Long story short, after several CT scans it was determined to be a cancerous tumor. Added complication...I have a heart condition and am on blood thinners; hence, the Mayo Clinic Urologist was a little reluctant to do an open partial because of the potential risk of severe bleeding. Instead he recommended a biopsy first - and that came back malignant . Instead of the open partial he then opted to do a radical nephrectomy as it is an easier procedure and the recovery is a lot easier. I had the surgery done two weeks ago. The first week was very uncomfortable but now I'm feeling great and will be back to work in a couple of days.
I ws introduced to this site by a friend who was treaed for colon cancer last year and I wanted to say "thank you" to all here - thank you for sharing your stories, trials and tribulations, and helping me prepare myself mentally and physically for the scary unknown! I know I cannot compare to what most of you have gone through (or are still dealing with) but my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Stay strong!
