Been waiting months for this day....

in Colorectal Cancer #1

Today is round 12 of my chemo.  Been waiting for a long time for this to be over, at least for now.  Hoping for a good scan in the next week or so.  That will give me a chemo holiday for a while, and a chance to feel good again.  It's very frustrating to feel like crap for 7-10 days, then start to feel better, then get infused with the poison again.  Of course, I am sure most of you know exactly how that is.  

On a more positive note, I am currently cooking a BBQ lunch for all of my nurses.  They have been wonderful the entire time.  I know it has to be very hard for them to deal with hundreds of cancer patients day in and day out.  To see the suffering, to manage side effects, and to just provide a smile and encouraging words.  I know I couldn't do it.  But I didn't want to be the guy that just brings donuts and says "thanks".  I hope they appreciate it as much as I enjoy making it.


Anyway, thanks again for all of the support and kind words from the members.  You guys have been great, and I am quite grateful that I found this resource.

    Congrats on the graduation coming soon. We all know how you feel in terms of feeling constantly crappy for six months.

    That's so sweet of you! I bet they're thrilled. Isn't it so nice to not be on chemo? I'm on a break because of what it was doing to my skin and I'm supposed to go back on it this Friday. I've enjoyed being off of it so much and right now I feel better than I have in about a year. I'd LOVE to have a nice summer off and just live and enjoy life.

    From my experience, the side effects of chemo fade fast in the first few weeks, but then linger longer than you expect.  Nonetheless, I am sure life will start looking a whole lot better without the drugs.  Congratulations on getting through it all!

    It's all so exhausting and overwhelming sometimes. Hope you're able to enjoy a break this summer!

    Yes, I hope the effects fade fast and I can get back to living life to the fullest.  The nurses (and all of the other staff that wasn't invited) thouroughly enjoyed the lunch.  Cooking is my passion, so it was quite fun to put a smile on their faces!  Getting a scan on May 11th to see how everything worked out, then we will decide what to do next.  I am hoping for a good scan and a chemo holiday for a while.  Have a trip planned for late May, just to get out of town and reset a bit.  

    Thanks again for all of the kind words...it helps so much to have a good support group!

    And what a nice treat for everyone. Chemo nurses are special, and it is good to make them feel special. 

    Good luck with your scans. Try not to fret..... I know, its hard not to.

    Good to hear that the first cycle is done! Although I am new on this challenge,  I feel your pain about the chemo, and to see people who are progressing is one of the best supports for me.

    It is such a kind gesture to make people happy. I also love BBQing and I am sure it must be a nice motivation for you too.

    I hope you will have great results from the next scan. Fingers crossed for you.
