Carbo/ Taxol
This is the 3rd choice of chemo that was decided on. I didn't want to deal with the rash so I decided on this as did the chemotherapist.
My radiologist said this wasn't proven for BOT SCC cancer. He said good for lung cancer and I also reminded him also is used for Cervix SCC
My question is has anyone used this for BOT HPV+ cancer.. and what are the side effects.
I go meet the chemo team Wednesday after my first rad treatment

My Husband had to switch to Carbo/Taxol
My Husband had to switch to Carbo/Taxol after one does of Cisplatin. The Cisplatin was so toxic to his body and the side effects were so terrible he had to be taken off of the treatment. He did much better on the Carboplatin/Taxol. The side effects of the Carbo/Taxol were mild compared to the Cisplatin. We were told the Carbo/taxol was just as effective as the Cisplatin.

My husband had Cetuximab
My husband had Cetuximab (Erbitux) & developed the rash. They prescribed a cream that worked so the rash lasted about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks. Since he already has tinnitus Cisplatin was not an option. It seems that all chemo treatments come with their own drawbacks and advantages.

update on carbo?
Hi there. My spouse is getting carbo/taxol because she had some hearing problems and cisplatin can exacerbate those issues. Did you get an update on whether carbo is as effective as cisplatin?
The chemo treatments are tough. We've done three and there are three to go. We were told the chemo improves the effectiveness of the radiation, but also increases the seriousness of the side effects, and we've had horrible side effects. My wife is considering stopping the chemo altogether. I've been reading about recurrences of this type of cancer (SCC base of tongue HPV-related with two lymph nodes involved). I want her to follow the doctors' advice and get on the other side of this.

Ive had only slight side effect and that was nausea nothing serious for me.. Now the rad we can talk all kind of stuff. The phlegm has to be the worse gagging and spitting all day. i do a lot of rinsing like 30 times a day with saltwater, baking soda
I use magic mouthwash to numb the mouth sores, I purchased miaderm as a radiation cream that has helped immensely
