I feel like I just walked out the exit door

in Colorectal Cancer #1

Through my going on and off of this forum during my colon cancer journey, I know that we all like to hear good news when it exists.

I am happy to say that this morning  I had my port removed, which was a very short surgical procedure. Physically I feel pretty good, but mentally I feel like I just walked out the exit door of a movie theater, after watching a long bad movie that I couldn't wait to end!

I will continue on this forum and offer whatever help I can from my experiences, as I am so grateful for the support I found with this group.

    Port Removal!

    So happy for you! It's wonderful to put that chapter of your journey behind you! I was thrilled when the port was finally removed, too! Another joy was when the HomeCare team came to the house and took away all the infusion supplies including all the hazmat gear, etc. Now it's time to see a fun movie!  :-)

    And just in case you don't get to pop by very often (which is totally understandable, as allot of folks just want to leave the whole episdoe, including the forum, behind).  image

    Like you  I have had my port removed, only in 2010!  I don't post as much anymore either.  Best of luck to you!!!

    You're a free man! LOL! Great news Barry and very happy to hear! Stupid question... why does it take so long to disconnect the port after your completion in November? I didn't do the port so I have no idea.

    Good question Lily!

    I had to wait for my follow up CT Scan to be completed, which was approximately 3 months from my last treatment. If the news was negative, I might have needed the port again. Once I heard good news, I told the doctor that I wanted the port out. The doctor totally agreed and understood my feelings. My wife, however, asked the doctor "don't you think it is better to keep the port in just in case the cancer comes back?", to which I replied "are you **** kidding me!", after which we all agreed that it would be removed.  Wink

    Ports just gunk up if you don

    Ports just gunk up if you don't flush them regular, and who wants to go in any more then you have to. Congrats on walking away from that crappy movie and may they never make a sequel.................................Dave

    My view is

    My view is, if the cancer were to ever come back, I'll have the port re-implanted if needed. If I had left it in after hearing the words "your clean", in my minds it would feel like I was just waiting for it to come back.

    After 23 years of marriage, my wife gets me! I'm a glass half full person, while she is glass half empty person. They say opposites attract, I guess it's trueTongue Out
