NEWLY DIAGNOSED

in Lung Cancer #1

My 73 year old brother was just diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and given approximately 6 months to live.  Our parents died years ago, so it's just the two of us left.  Needless to say, I'm devastated.  I need to be able to spend time with him without crying constantly.  I can't seem to do that, yet.  Beside wanting to spend time with him, there are decisions that need to be made and paperwork that needs to be completed.

All I feel is a profound sense of loss and sadness.  I have to pull myself together and function.  I want to be strong for my brother, but I don't know how to do that.

Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    First off, NO one can give

    First off, NO one can give you a time limit. Has your brother been seen by a cancer center? Has he had all his testing done? Has he been tested for gene mutations? There are MANY people with stage IV living well and living long. Please urge him to get a second, third and even fourth opinion. Do you know the type? Is it small cell or non small cell?

    Thank you, Katmar.  My brother has seen an oncologist, but I don't know what testing has been done, or not done, in this case.  I did feel totally hopeless a couple of days ago, but today, after I saw my brother, I feel much better...

    It helps to know that there are people out there - some just like me....

    Go to appointments, if he will allow you to. That way, you can get first hand information. Lots of times, when patients go alone, they forget so much because they are numb, and they forget questions they may want to ask. It's important to know what type he has, as there are many options.     Do not give up keep going,  He is a live therefore there is hope
