I've taken turmeric for a couple of years. I do it because it's supposed to help with inflammation and I get stiff and sore from running a lot. I checked with my urologic oncologist before I started taking it and he said there was no problem in terms of any effect on the kidney.
As for acupuncture, I tried it for ringing in my ears. Alas, it didn't do me any good. But I am still a huge believer in it. My wife's cousin suffered a stroke about a year and a half ago (she lives in Singapore) and she started acupuncture about a year after the stroke (long story). At any rate, a great deal of her discomfort subsided after the treatments, which she is still taking. How effective it would be for anxiety, I don't know. But I encourage you to try it. If nothing else, it's quiet and relaxing.

Be careful with turmeric as it's a blood thinner. So people who are on blood thinning medication or take aspirin should check with doc on taking turmeric.
Good point that I forgot to mention. One of my in-laws wanted to give it to his mom, but she was on a blood thinner and I vetoed that (despite it being his mom) much to his anger.
