Hilar cholangiocarcinoma
Hi, Last week, my dad (75 years) diagnosed with Hilar cholangiocarcinoma with preferential extension into the left ductal system. Doctor placed a stent in the bile duct to allow the bile to drain into the small intestine.
Yesterday's PET scan revealed that his cancer has spread to lungs and Colon. Doctor not advised for chemo or radiation therapy because of the side effects involved in those procedure and also considering the age of the patient. Thinking of taking second advice from a different cancer specialist.
Any advice would be appreciated.
My dad lives in India (Hyderabad).
Regards,
Sri

Hi Sri,I too have
Hi Sri,I too have cholangiocarcinoma. I am 57 years old and it was discovered in November 2016. My tumor did not spread and I went through chemo and then chemo with radiation with no reduction in size. The only way to have a possibility of a cure is for the tumor to be removed. I then searched for other opinions from many major hospitals on the east coast of the US. It took a few months but after a lot of research I found an excellent surgeon at Columbia University/Presbytery Hospital in New York City. He was the only surgeon who was able to perform surgery. I had the surgery on November 28, 2017. It was ten hours and I recovered very well. I will have my first CAT scan and MRI in a couple of weeks. Always seek other opinions!! If I didn’t research and see other doctors I would have never found my surgeon who has given me hope.
