New and scared

Hi I've been under CT scan observation for the last 3 years and just say my pulmonary yesterday.  Was shown my scans and was told I have a cracked glass nodule that has gone from 7.8mm to 12.4mm in the last year.  He has set me up for follow-up in 6 months and said I'm at the pre-cancerous stage.  Doctor said surgeon probably wouldn't touch it at this time and biopsy is not feasible currently. I'm 56 and a current smoker about to quit. Any info plese.

    I originally was diagnosed with kidney cancer 20 years ago, since then have had reoccurences every 5 years, right lower wedge resection, right upper lobectomy, and a benign tumor on my thyroid. At first you hear CANCER and think death sentence, but you survive.  You realize that cancer is like other diseases with reoccurences and periods of remission.  Take one day at a time, live as healthy as you can and trust God.

    Thank you. I gave myself a "me" day, I guess all the normal first reactions and now will move forward as God sees fit.

    Depending on location, the nodule IS large enough to biopsy. I would definitely get a second opinion and a biopsy. Wishing you all the best. And it is likely to be very early stage.

    If it is in a difficult location, it would be hard to biopsy at this size. If not, it IS large enough for biopsy.

    Thank you and yes he did mention something about location being the reasons for no biopsy nor surgeon at this time.  I need to re-read his notes and contact him now that I'm more clear headed after hearing his news.

    2nd opinion

    I highly suggest that before any treatment that you get a second opinion. My father did not get a second opinion when he got chemo and radiation 10 years ago. When the cancer came back, he asked them to remove his lung and was told that if he had that done before the radiation then he would not be dealing with it now and would have had a long life. However, now the scar tissue from the radiation caused too much damage and it could not be done now.
