Sorry boatload of questions!
Any type 2 diabetics here? My sugars have been the worst in my life and I know that is bad for healing.
How long will I look and feel 6 months pregnant?
Have any of you contemplated the genetic component of your cancer? Is it a fluke/ mutation/ect?
In the aftermath I’m now feeling like wow I had cancer, I have to worry about it coming back.i wasn’t prepared for the emotional part. Were any of you blindsided by it.it all seemed so simple but here I am someone who grew those dreaded mutated cells.
sorry for being so lengthy. Leading up to surgery I was busy working and prepping. Now healing I have time to think. It all seems different.
thank you!

Yes, I have t2dm
Actually, my current doctor says I am not diabetic because my HbA1c is 5.5 but in January 2015 it was 9.7
Low carbohydrate high fat diet. That is all you need to put your diabetes in remission. Google will find all the information you need but I will gladly talk to you about it.
One warning... Lowering carbs will very quickly lower your blood sugar so if you inject insulin or take any insulin raising medication then you might need medical supervision (or risk a hypo).

Like Steve said, eat right low caeb for sugar low protein for kidneys and exercises as much as possible...walk, walk ,walk....Once diagnosed I lost over 30 pounds with just a few changes. Post Neph I'm off the blood pressure pills and only taking 1 metformin a day ( prior i was taking 3 pills daily for sugar)soon to be off that last one I hope!!! There is a healthier person in all of us every little bit helps!!!
Best of luck to you...

Thanks guys
I am usually excellent at keeping sugars in check. Since surgery 12/18 sugars are sky high. I’m not eating much. Finally talked to doc he said insulin temporarily to get me through healing. Thank you both for your advice!

Oh, yes...
Hormones and blood sugar can apparently go nuts after surgery. Cholesterol too, I think. From (bad) memory my blood sugar was a bit high during my 9 days in hospital. Maybe around 7 to 9 mmol/L. Nothing to panic about but strange considering I was eating very little.
How high are your sugar levels?
The whole cancer experience was a shock for me, but in a good way, I think. Now whatever feelings I've had about it have largely worn off. My nephrectomy was 10 months ago and it's almost like it never happened. Mine was stage 1, by the way, so it's easy for me to think of it as an educational experience.
Of course, if it ever comes back... Maybe I'll rediscover all of those emotions and even find some new ones.

Sugars
my sugars have been ranging between 175 and 230 since surgery . I freaked when I first posted this but GP put my mind at ease and said its reaction to trauma and pain. I’m never that high! thank you for being supportive!

Highs and lows
My highest ever blood sugar was about 25 mmol/L (450 mg/dL) in January 2015. My lowest ever was 2.6mmol/L (47 mg/dL) after several days of fasting.
If I stick to my low carb diet my morning reading is usually about 4.2 mmol/L (76 mg/dL).
Since my nephrectomy in February I have not been eating as well as I should so I now weigh 100kg, up from about 83kg when I got home from hospital. Now that christmas feasting is behind us I will get serious about diabetes again. I need to look after my remaining kidney.
By the way, I healed very well after surgery. One of the surgeons said that I have 'lovely purple veins'. I assume that is a good thing. It might have been medical humour.
