Pathology results

in Kidney Cancer #1

Hello everyone I Have some very interesting and confusing pathology results. Ive been diagnosed with mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma . The surgeon said it was low grade and usually indolent. The specifics are 5.3 cm tumor, limited to kidney . sarcomatoid = not identified tumor necrosis = not identified histologic grade g1 =margina negative for invasive carcinoma = lymph-vascular invasion =not identified primary tumor pt1b . the findings suggest a papillary carcinoma vs a mucinous tubular ansd spindle cell carcinoma. Im really dumbfounded by this result and the surgeon suggests bloodwork every six months and yearly ct scans . Is this aggressive enough for this particular subtype of rcc, any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Two thoughts

    Brandonben,

     

    Get a second opinion and/or ask for an additional scan at 3 or 6 months. I am in no position to second guess the surgeon.

    Wow. That is the 1st I have heard of that. However, I haven't been around here for too long! Glad to hear it is low grade and that it was confined to the kidney.

    I personally feel due to the low grade and indolent nature you are most likely will not have to deal with this again :) but with that being said, it appears it may be a type of renal cancer not as researched. I suggest you follow the suggested guidelines for stage 1 and that is every six months for two years and then annual.  CT is good.  

     

    You can push the dr for this. They usually comply and they can write a response if insurance pushes back.
