She states that they are mobile.

The ultrasound states that they are ill-defined hypoechoic heterogeneous masses with evidence of mild internal vascularity.

My mother and her sister both have breast cancer. I am in the process of waiting for a diagnostic mammogram. Can anyone advise if I should have concern and what these terms mean?

You won’t know until they do a biopsy. They did ultrasound before mammogram?  Hoping for the best for you.

Ill-defined deals with the shape.  Many masses are a definite shape; it sounds as though these are not.

Hypoechoic deals with the way the sound waves bounce off the mass.  Hypoechoic means the mass is solid and not liquid.

vasculation deals with blood flow in the mass.

I would  think if they are "mobile" they are not connected to the chest wall or skin cells.

Ask for an explanation in layman's terms when you meet with a specialist.

You need to have a doctor sit down with you and explain this terminology. I would say that you need a breast biopsy to look for evidence of cancer or no cancer. Get copies of any and all radiology reports for yourself. 

I never heard of a diagnostic mammogram. Usually they do a mammogram, ultrasound, maybe an MRI. But with your history, a breast biopsy definitely is called for  especially if masses are found, mobile or not. Don’t settle for less. If your doctor doesn’t order it, go somewhere else. I’m Stage 4 because it wasn’t thought that I needed a biopsy 10 years ago. My BC could’ve been caught earlier.

It’s your body and your life that‘s important. Don’t sell yourself short.  Kats2
