3 months of Taxol/Avastin
Hi everyone-
I have been taking this treatment weekly for 3 months and it has been pretty awful. For some reason, the Taxol made my whole head miserable. I've had horrible mouth sores, loss of taste, hair thinned out, and worst of all, sore throats and sinusitis so bad it eventually became infected! At the end of the rainbow, however, all of my tumors have responded and I am "significantly improved" according to the doctors. The interim doc said she is reccomending stopping taxane for a while, and leaving me on just the Avastin, so I am psyched. I believe that it is the taxol that is causing me so much inflammation and consequently, pain. But it is working, so I guess it has been a good thing for me. I pray the Avastin will be enough.
PS I am reading posts, but just had nothing but misery to offer so I kept my mouth shut. Has anyone heard from CHeese? I pray she is ok

Hi!
Oh Henhill, I'm so sorry you've been suffering! We don't mind if you need to vent a bit while going through this kind of stuff. Who knows, maybe somebody would have had a suggestion that would've helped. In any case, it's good to hear that you're starting to think that it's been worth it. Hurray!! Cheese just posted yesterday, so she's still around.

helhill, that taxol is a tough chemo and why they watch us closely when we get it, and clearly you are having a bad reaction with the sores. I am so sorry. I hope the Avastin alone is the ticket for you.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. If it works though, it all may be worth it. I sure hope the Avastin by itself makes those awful side effects disappear.
Love,
Eldri

Henhill, I'm glad you posted. And that is really great news too! I'm hoping you will be able to enjoy the holidays now that you are off of the Taxol. Thanks for letting us know what is going on with you. Always good to hear from our friends that are currently going through treatment!
Love and Hugs,

thanks everyone
i appreciate the encouragement, especially from the "mets club" who continue to struggle. I got the 'rest" of the story today..... and while my tumors have responded to the treatment, there was mets to the liver and a bone. She says its under control. but I am concerned about that spread. Damn
i was so sad to hear about Helen/daylady, whose symptoms were very similar to my own. God bless her and the rest of you here.
Glad you are okay Cheese!
