The Same ExperienceAnnissaP said:Three doctors here in Canada
Three doctors here in Canada said they do not biopsy. They told me they take the mass out first then determine exactly what it is. Even if they think it isn't cancer they remove it and treat it as if it is cancer.
I‘m new here on the blog and my experience was similar to yours. My doctor said he would not biopsy. I decided I was ok with that because mass had to go regardless. It turned out I had stage 1 grade 3 RCC. I just had surgery on 11-14- 17 and I’m recovering well. I had a robotic assisted partial right nephrectomy. When I first came to the blog, I was shocked to see how many people are sharing this experience. I’m looking forward to supporting pepole here.

I still think there’s aSal7864 said:no date for biopsy yet
and curious for a reason to those who would pass on it ? Or I wonder if a PET scan would confirm it?
I still think there’s a chance of seeding.

kidney tumor 2.3 cm
I just joined this chat forum. Needless to say when most people hear the word "cancer". For me, anyway, I just "lose it"...cried for days. I had an MRI for chronic lower back pain and when the nurse called me last month saying you have this kidney mass in your rt. kidney and need a CT scan to confirm. My primary immediately ordered that and sure enough it came back possitive for cancer. I see the urology surgeon today. I feel like this is a death sentence and althought I'm 76, my Mom is 97 and I was hoping for a few more years on planet Earth to be with my family. I've been so upset, nervous, fearful, reading my bible daily, and reading what other people have written in about that size of tumor and it's hopeful in that from what I'm reading it is small. I just have to see what the surgeon says. I had a scan in 2013 and it didn't show anything, so in 4 years time, this tumor has gone from non existing to 2.3 cm...so I'm not one to sit around and have it watched and see if it "grows"...to get that size in 4 years tells me in another 4 years it will have spread to my lungs or ?? Just wanted to be able to "vent" to people who have my same situation and I know it's all up to the surgeon what he tells me today and my "fate". Wish my good prayers. Thanks and well wishes to everyone undergoing this cancer

kidney failure
I failed to add that because of "untreated HIGH BP for a few years, I have pre kidney failure with my GFR stabe in the 40's for over 15 years. A huge factor in that I hope the surgeon can perservce as much kidney as possible if surgery is my option. Anyone else with kidney failure AND kidney cancer?

Hi Joy! I do not have kidney
Hi Joy! I do not have kidney failure but was just diagnosed with kidney cancer. Initially the scans showed a 3.6cm mass. I was to have only part of my kidney removed. The tumor ended up being 2.8cm instead but sitting more deep in the kidney than they thought. They ended up taking the whole kidney. I had a scan just at the beginning of the year and several over the last cpl of years. The tumor only showed this past August. Surgeon said I probably had it for 6-7 years as RCC is typically slow growing. At 2 or so cm it def is NOT a death sentence!!! I hope not. I am only 39 lol. It should still be confined to the kidney so they just remove it and you heal and enjoy the rest of your life. I know it is awful to hear the news, but they move quickly and you may be more at ease once all appts are in place. Take care and know you are not alone!!!! I just had my surgery 4 weeks ago!!!

Joy MC
Hi Joy MC,
Try not to stress. I had a 2.7 cm mass right kidney. third person in my immediate family to get cancer (brother had stomach) and mother had pancreatic). to treat my little tumor I had percutaneous CRYO ablation under CT guidance to "freeze" and kill my kidney tumor. This is becoming more popular for treatment of small renal tumors especially for those folks who have other health issues. I took 8 days off work. Procedure was done as outpatient under general anesthsia. they did the biopsy using a needle before the freezing and then the cryo needles are placed under CT guidance and they freeze the tumor and a small amount of surrounding tissue to make sure they get it all. the pathology showed clear cell renal cell carcinoma grade 2. I will follow with CT scan at 3 months,6month,1year and yearly thereafter for 4 more years. The Interventional radiologist that did the procedure told me due to the fact that my tumor was in the back of the kidney it would have been a tecnicaly difficult to do a partaial nephrectomy and that the tumor was in perfect spot for the procedure i had. This cryoablation is just as effective as a cure for small kidneys tumors as the tradtional partial kidney removal according to the latest studies. Talk to your Urologist before deciding on the best treatment and research on Google percutaneous cryoablation for kidney tumors which will explain further. I had minimal pain after the procedure and no complications since procedure a month ago. My prayers go out to you and continue to read your Bible it has been a comfort to me.
