Advised to start chemo before complete diagnosis

Hi Everyone

I am happy to find a place such as this to ask qurations and get answers from others going through a similar situation.

I had a total hysterectomy on 3 Oct after they found adenocarcinoma from my D&C two weeks prior. I was scared but my GYN ONC was confident I would not need any further treatment after my hysterectomy. Unfortunately when my uterus was removed there was a visible tumor underneath it. My ovaries, tubes, lymph nodes and uterus did not have cancer in them. They believe it was confined to the uterus and removed during D&C. Now they are having a hard time identifying the exact type of uterine cancer. My specimens were sent to MD Anderson, but they are telling me to start my chemo (Carbo/taxol) this week. I keep thinking that I should wait for the results. Per the nurses this is comm since the doctor says treatment will be the same regardles. what do you think?

    Welcome to our board. Glad

Welcome to our board. Glad you found us and so sorry you had to! From what I understand, any grade 3 uterine cancer regardless of the stage is recommended for chemo. I was stage 1A / Grade 3 and started chemo 3 weeks post my hysterectomy. As long as you are confident in your doctors, my vote is to go forward with the chemo. The sooner you start, the sooner you can be finished.  There is a thread titled 'Ladies going through chemo' that has loads of information. Several of us documented our chemo from start to finish. I hope you find the time to read it.

Please come back and let us know how you are doing. You can ask us anything!

    Love and Hugs,

    Cindi

Welcome to the support group. You joined a great site for support.

I had my hysterectomy after having a hysterosopy.  I was staged 1a and started chemo 5th week post op after my follow-up visit.

I would be on the doctors to find out the exact type you have, but not delay treatment.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

    Thank you Cindi and Hopeful56

    Thank you Cindi and Hopeful56!

I have decided to be brave and start treatment. Maybe part of me was just putting off the chemo out of fear.

Have you received a diagnosis yet?

Wondering if you had started the chemo or had any new developments. My first chemo was taxol/Carbo on 10/26. Let us know how things are going. Hugs and prayers!

Everything happens so fast for me

    I was diagnosed last October 2016 - Grade 3 FIGO stage (pT3a N1 and IIIC1) – Endometroid Carcinoma at 41 years old.

    October 5, 2016 Tranvaginal Ultrasound

October 11, 2016 Gynecoligy visit and biopsy sample taken

October 14, 2016 new that I have Grade 3 Endometrial cancer

October 21, 2016 Oncology visit and CT Scan

October 28, 2016 -  I had “Hysterectomy – Bilateral Salpingo-oophorectomy” by Laparoscopic Surgery.  I stayed overnight and was discharged the next day.

    December 2016 to April 2017 - 6 cycles of Chemo treatment (Taxol/Carboplatin)

June 2017 I think I had 25 or 28 rounds of Radiation treatment

Let me know if how can I help.  My cancer was very aggressive so I just waited for a month to recover after the surgery and proceed with the Chemo treatment.
