I hate it, and I don't quite get it!! Usually I get back to normal in 5 days after pump is pulled out of this alien port...but this time is different. My throat hurts when I swallow water or any kind of food. Then both corner of my mouth has sore and so is the sides of my tongue!! This something new to me!! Have you ever had this kind of nightmare? Help!! I won't be able to see my doctor until the 11th of this month.

    Ah! Memories!

For me, the throat felt like there was a lump that food couldn't get past.  My Onc told me that it is a sensation and not an actual blockage.  I also had the lump feeling down between the breast.

I had terrible mouth sores, and would swish with salt, baking soda and warm water. It worked pretty well on the tongue and gum sores, but I would have to apply lip salve to the lips.

The chemo dries up the mucous membranes and thus the sores. Not sure what causes the throat problems.

Chemo is wicked stuff. Not for sissies. It kept me alive so in the end, I'm not grumbling - though I did grumble during treatment, when I it was not a happy time -

    Sore throat

i am so sorry that you are having a sore throat and mouth. I didn't have a really bad time with mouth sores like I've read some people here have until I got thrush which is a fungal infection of the mouth and if you have children or grandchildren it's what babies get it's a yeast infection now I'm not saying that this is w your having. It could be the cumulative effect of the chemo but it's not hard to diagnose. I know that I never expected something like this to happen but I was told that I was so immunocompromised and that is why I got it. I used a salt and baking soda in as warm water that I could stand to gargle and swish and spit sometimes every twenty minutes my mouth became so raw and painful and my dr prescribed what is called miracle mouth was for my mouth and when I was diagnosed with thrush I was prescribed Nystatin. Your in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you get some help and don't wait until your appointment call and hopefully your doc will either prescrib you something or work you in sooner than the 11th.

    Maybe Miracle Mouthwash

I've used the Miracle Mouthwash that has helped with my sores in throat and mouth.  My pharamacy knew nothing of it so it has to come from your hospital.  If someone suggested this in a post I'd not seen it so sorry.  But it works Miracles on the sores in the mouth and throat.  Hope you feel better and see if you can get some soon.  It has to be ordered by your doctor.

    Mouth sores

I pretty much have a sore mouth the whole time.  I have also had actual mouth sores.  I brush my teeth and gums often with a solution of baking soda and a bit of salt.  Also use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth and gums.  I have a solution called Koolstat - believe it is half nystatin and half lidocaine for discomfort.  It is meant to be swallowed for the throat after swish.  I only swallow a bit, as developed pretty bad heartburn when I swallowed the capful.  I carry a swish of baking soda and salt, and swish whenever I remember.  I know I have to keep on top of this as I think I am prone to get mouth sores from the chemo, and being diligent has helped me to prevent mouth sores pretty much.
