Invasive squamous cell carcinoma - basaloid type

A few days ago my father was diagnosed with invasive squamous cell carcinoma - basaloid type, in the anal region. He's the first cancer patient in our family so we have no idea what to expect and are obviously very concerned. Does anyone have any recommendation/tips on how to prepare for chemo/radiation, etc.? Has anyone had a similar diagnosis? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
