Hello everyone!  I hope everyone is doing well.  So had my surgery Friday and things are going good.  It took 9 hours to do my teeth, tongue, and bilateral neck dissection but im feeling much better than I thought I would and will probably go home today!  Some good news, what they tested in the operating room from my tongue showed no signs of cancer so if the pathology comes back the same i won't need treatment on my tongue!! Fingers crossed!  What is the estimated healing time for most? My Dr said around a month but that seems a bit long.  My neck feels a bit tight but other than that I feel surprisingly good. .... Must be good drugs lol

    Where was your cancer?

    Where was your cancer?

I had a tumor removed from my tongue and 42 lymph nodes.  I'm a little over a year out and my neck surgery site is still tight and there is still numbness.  My tongue feels awful.  My Dr. said that I might never get all the feelings back completely but it is worlds better than right after the surgery.   I think your doctor is being a little over optimistic about healing.

It started in my tongue and

It started in my tongue and moved to lymph nodes on both sides.  I won't know an official count until pathology comes back but I had surgery done on my tongue last year I was in much more pain than I am now.  Im gonna try and do everything I can to make things go smooth so I can start treatment asap. Im not that concerned about the side effects.  If im numb around my jaw or tongue I can deal with that.   I just wanna make it through this.

    When they say a month....

they're talking complete healing outside AND inside.  You'll be amazed with two weeks, how good you feel, and how little the surgery impacts your life....even the scar becomes a tiny pink line.  I had to wait from Nov. 15th to January 7th between the surgery and radiation....probably would have been less if Christmas hadn't been in the middle of it all.

My Dr is hoping to start in 4

My Dr is hoping to start in 4-6 weeks.  Im feeling pretty sore today but they cut my pain meds in half when they discharged me.  Is that normal?
