Liver Enzymes - Anecdotal thoughts

The question re controlling/lowering Liver Enzymes has been coming up frequently lately.

My Integrative Med specialist at Sloan Kettering was concerned.  She put me on Milk Thistle twice a day (started at 150 mg (1 capsule) twice a day; after a week, increased to 300 mg  twice a day.)  Saw limited improvement, but she upped me to 3 capsules in the morning, 2 at night.  Better counts, still slightly high.

A few months ago, I started adding a large tablespoon of unrefined (virgin) coconut oil to my morning oatmeal.  Both liver counts went into the normal range for the first time in years.  Note:  this is my own anecdotal evidence.  However, I've since dropped the Milk Thistle.

This should not be taken as medical advice.  This is strictly my own experience.  However, my primary care seems to agree that the coconut oil is helping.

    Interesting

Every  bit of information is important.

I believe we each can figure out what works best for our bodies.  I swear by an orange or two juiced with half a lemon. Any medical back-up? No! And I don't see any improvement in bloods or CTs, but I just 'feel' better.  The same goes with foods that don't make me 'feel' good.

So, thank you Abrub, for this piece of information.  I have been moving over from the Canola oil I have used for year, to Coconut and other nut oils.

I pray that you see continued improved and normal levels in live enzymes and EVERYTHING.

The same Integrative Med dr said no to canola oil

She wanted me to avoid canola.  I was surprised, but haven't used it since.  I use coconut, olive, corn and peanut oil (plus sesame oil for flavoring!)

Coconut oil seems to be a panacea - good for whatever ails you!  I use it top to bottom, inside and out, topically and ingested.

For many years, the British countryside in springtime, has been filled with field after field of wonderful yellow Rape (Canola).  Therefore, in my ignorance, I thought that this was a natural crop; only to learn in the last few years, that Rape is geneticall modified.   Pretty, but not good for the body (my belief).
