Last day!! Now what?

So far
This has been a rough week, I guess passing out at Lowes pushed me over the edge, but 3 days, (2 bags, 2 bags of magnessium, a bag of potassium and 4 insanely huge potassium tablets, each time!) and its FRIDAY!!
I can sleep all I want, do nothing if I want, cartwheels.... ok maybe not
My port has been blocked last 2 times, anyone else have that?
Oh and after "take pain meds, what will you take, have pain meds etc" I asked for a refill today and the nurse gave me a total runaround like I was a junkie!!! I have done this on 24 Tramadol and Tylenol, so I'm a little ticked that she said to ask on Monday, WTH???
Joel, Thank You for the ray of hope - I don't care what it tastes like, as long as I can eat it!
MMDowns, Thank You, Thank You for just being there. talking to Kyle is hard as he wants to either wrap me in cotton wool, or toss me out to fend for myself! He wont read anything, so all he knows is what I tell him.

Yay!! I'm so glad that you'reJoel4 said:Congratulations!
I rang the bell almost three weeks ago and it was nice to put an end to the damaging treatment and start the healing process.
I was in very rough shape by the end of treatment, very sore throat, and all food was through the tube. After one week the pain was mostly gone, and now I am doing much better. Still not much improvement with the taste buds and my biggest hurdle continues to be nutrition. Food tastes bad and I've had it with the tube, but we are making small strides every day. The mucous is not as prolific and the dryness is not too bad.
Very happy to hear that the treatment is done and I'd expect your husband to improve greatly as the weeks pass by. As far as the first post treatment scan goes, I just put that out of mind and focus and improving one day at a time.
Good luck, and God bless!
Yay!! I'm so glad that you're feeling better and better! I am looking forward to just getting through healing week one. He's doing OK. He's ready for his taste buds to come back and we know that'll be a slow recovery. We are just focusing on the positive.

SuzJ I am always here for you. Relax, sleep, do what you need to do this weekend. Try if you can to stay hydrated and no trips to Lowe's

Ah yes....I remember the
last day of treatment well (the last day or rads was a big WHOO HOO), but I still had another 9 weeks of chemo to go. You caretakers go through more, I think....at least emotionally....than us the patients. We get wrapped up in our own world of trudging through each day. But you guys have to keep the world running around us PLUS care for us, worry about us, listen to the Drs., read the forum...there is no rest for you.
The "now whats" is precisely what everyone feels at the end of treatment. We've been in a whirlwind of activity for weeks, and it come to a sudden and abrupt halt. Just remember that help is only a phone call away. You aren't left to blindly feel your way back to normalcy....the docs are there, and so are we.

Thank you, Phrannie for your lovely words. Being a caretaker is tough but you guys are the tough ones. Everyone has their own journey. We are ready for the next phase of this one. I hope and pray it's as " gentle" as the first part.

I know my husband worries about me and he is the one with cancer. He knows I will try to do it all. I still have to work, take care of the kids, pets and our home. Somewhere in there, we caretakers have to take care of ourselves as well, but when? We have to MAKE the time.

You are spot on. You HAVE to make time for you. And move past the guilty feeling of leaving them for awhile. I had a super hard time doing that but I hace to work and all the other big and little things we forget about Mine was getting a mani/pedi once a month. It was just for me, I was out of the house, my husband has some quiet time to just be or sleep. Just that one thing made a huge difference.
