Newly DiagnosedIlexxx said:Newly Dianosed
My husband just got the call today no one wants. 'You have cancer". His Gleason score was 8. PSA OF 6.4. IT WENT UP .2 POINTS IN A MONTH. The doctor said one side was not aggressive cancer but the other side was. He has a bone scan in a few days. I am scared. Very scared. He has had pain in his shoulder and I assume it is not cancer related but it worries me. He has frequency, urgency and blood in his urine. I came here because I need support. Thank you in advance.
llexxx,
It is never welcome news when you get the call regarding cancer and we as humans tend to think the worst possible senerio. I'm no expert in this area but I have learned a few things as I have been going through this. In June a good freind was diagnosed with a high psa and gleason score he had his surgury July 5th. His was considered agresive thus the quick surgery. All his test results came back negative, he wont get an updated psa for another month or so and he is doing well. He also had a bout with cancer several years ago and went through kemo. As the word got out among my family that I had cancer I was surprized how many of my uncle's have already gone through prostate cancer. My point is there are many sucess stories posted on line there are also the ones that have undesirable scary results that we dred and dont want them to come our way but they are there for our learning. Many sucess stories you never read about have happen. Do your homework, learn all you can, find a doctor with a good track record that you can trust and dont forget to pray.

Yesterday I had my cath removed and staples removed. What a relief, I felt so good I took a 1-1/2 mile walk last night. I got a copy of the pathology report and it says there was no cancer found in the surounding tissues (margins)that were talken along with the prostate. The cancer was confined to the prostate, good news PTL. I'm holding my own for the moment, didnt need the pads yesterday or diapers last night, though I dont think I can control a full blader. All things considered I'm thankful for the good report and recovery progress, I go back in 3 months for a psa. I sill havnt seen the pic of my prostate.

That is a good start post op. Hope it all returns to normalcy the soonest.
Best wishes for a remission level.

2 months plus
It has been 2 months since my surgury. I'm off lifting restrictions and have been back to work for a month. My continence continues to improve, I dont need a pad at night and I can go the day on one pad. If I had a gram scale I would measure and document the pad retention. Nevertheless the pads contunue to get lighter so I know there is improvement. I would say I'm 90% back with respect to surgery healing. I have found that doing some lifting has aided in my progress. When I was out spliting firewood I thought I would soak a pad but that didnt happen and there was a noticable improvement in continence thereafter. Taking it a day at a time and patient with small improvements

Weasel thanks for sharing your journey, I am a few months behind in my journey. I am leaning towards surgery also. I wish you well. Denis
