    Dear Friend,

I'm a 52 year old male and had that surgery almost 4 years ago. I don't know if it was offered to her as a option, but they took one of my abdominal musckes and filled up the space with it where the rectum was in the pelvis. this prevents the intestines to sink into the pelvis especially for women. Most people here agree to take 400mg Cimetidine (Tagamet) (over the counter) twice a day starting two weeks before and two weeks after surgery to prevent the spreading of cancer. Have an ostomy nurse bark the location of the colostomy so it won't interfere with her clothing and lifestyle. After the surgery get up as soon as possible and walk as much as possible. Go on uoaa.com for colostomy advise.

    Allthe best to you,

    Laz
