1st Red Devil treatment

partner had her first red devil chemo today. Everything in the cancer center went well. Making her drink lots of water, as suggested. Wearing the Nuelesta patch until tomorrow. When can we expect any nausea to set in? I have the meds to administer but just curious. Long journey but pleased with how things went today. Any advice or suggestions are welcomed. Blessings to all on this journey.

Guess I was lucky, but...

I never had any nausea except slightly the first time. The only side affect I got was that food was tasteless except for stuff with more spicy seasonings like mexican or chinese hotter dishes. ABSOLUTELY TRUE!

I know the threat of side affects is daunting to many people even to the point of choosing not to do it, BUT everyone reacts differently. I hope that is the case for you.

I would have nausea at any

I would have nausea at any time and it started the day after my first dose. I had 3 prescriptions by the time I moved on to Taxol, so it was managed.  I had  diarhea problems on the Red Devil. Sometimes, I was up all night on the day of treatment. The Devil made my mouth hurt and I had a horrible metallic taste in my mouth throughout chemo.  Plastic utensils were better and an occasional popsicle or cup of crushed ice.  I found some great ginger candy in a Jamaican market. Kept some with me all the time.  Best wishes.

NO nausea at all for me!

NO nausea at all for me through 4 DD A/C (Adriacycin/Cytoxan) neoadjuvant and 12 weekly Taxol adjuvant.  I even stopped taking all anti'-nausea meds 1/2 way through Taxol (except for what I had to take orally right before infusion and the anti-nausea meds that were given IV before Taxol infusion).  You didn't mention what meds she's on.  Emends is great but I haven't heard of many saying they are taking it recently.

 For what it's worth, I was told (by Chemo Dr and RNs) that your experiences with Morning Sickness may (in some of us) give an idea what 'you/anyone' will experience with nausea and chemo.  In my case, it was a good predictor - I had no Morning Sickness at all with either Son and no nausea with either A/C or Taxol.  There are others who have said the same thing but not all has it held true for.

In other words - she should not automatically expect to experience every possible SE that has been experienced by someone else.  We are each so unique and there is NO 'One Size Fits All'.   Of course, be prepared with knowledge from others but do not expect to have every negative SE that,has been evperienced by some (perhaps even many).

There are many/rapid changes in TX.  A Neulasta patch is but,one.  When I was DXd IBC 7 1/2 yrs ago, Neulasta was a shot the day after infusion.

Forgot to say - for me - A/C was 'easy' - did not slow me down at all.  Taxol was not 'nice' at all - I was completely/utterly EXHAUSTED the entire 12 weeks.  For some, it is the reverse - A/C nasty, Taxol easier.

Taste

I lost all sense of taste - could not 'taste' anything!  I could eat horseraddish as if it was mayo (hot wise).

These responses are very helpful and informative. First AC treatment was two days ago, except for being tired, most of the time things are fairly good. One small bout with nausea but the anti nausea pill did its job. Eating normally and no bad SE. She is wearing the nuelasta patch for 24 hours after treatment. No issues with that, either.
