Hi my name is Joseph Marx and I was diagnosed with Stge T2B esophageal adenocarcinma in the lower GE junction in the Fall of 2013.  Had standard of care chemo/radiation for 5 and 1/2 weeks through January 2014.  Had a complete response: the esophagus had completely healed, there wasn't even any scar tissue or Barrett's in the esophagus.  I attribute this to the alkaline diet I went on and also daily soakings of my esophagus with sodium bicarboante prior to, during and post treatment.  The doctors were all astonished and said they never saw anything like it before.  I opted out of surgery at this point but two years later the cancer came back in January 2016. I was stunned.

This time a tumor returned in a area a little lower than the first one, in the cardia.  I had a High Grade (SUV 10.6), Stage 3, HER2 Tripple positive (overexpressive) tumor, and had no other option than the surgery (esophagectomy), in February 2016.  The pathology showed one metastatic lymph node and suspected others. My doctors told me I needed more chemo again right away and that because I had recurrent esophageal cancer and metastatic lymph node that I would likely not survive if I didn't do additional treatment,  but I refused for a number of reasons. In particular, I had such severe complications from the surgery I was on a feeding tube for 11 weeks following the surgery, and then dealt with an anastomtic diverticulum, and refractory anastomtic strictures through the summer of 2016.

I had been researching this disease for 3 years and had been writing a book along the way. I came across some amazing things patients can do with diet that helps fight cancer, chief among them was restricing an amino acid called methionine (an essential amino acid). I founds scientific and clinic studies on restricting methinone from cancer and showed that cancer needs it to survive more than anything. I went on this diet, but also exercise, take natural supplements and added a alternative/naturopathic doctor out of pocket as a complement to all my other doctors. My cancer has been in remission for over a year now and I attribute it to the restricted Methionine diet.  WEAR TV 3 in Pensacola got a hold of my story and interviewed me and looked at my medical records to verify what I was saying and did a segment on my story on February 26, 2017. <Content Removed by CSN Support Team>
