Just found out I have Kidney Cancer

I'm 31 years old and I just found out last Friday I have Kidney Cancer. I was in the hospital for over two weeks with  bronchitis and the Flu and they thought I had blood clots in my lungs and when doing the CT scan they seen something  on my kidneys. I just had my urologist appointment and my mass is 33 cm big as a golf ball if not a little bigger on my left Kidney. The good thing is it's sitting on the edge by my spine. My surgeon  stated I could keep half my Kidney. He could just cut it right down the middle.... I have my good days and bad days... I'm extremely tired and my back stay hurting....  My Dr stated that's it's very rare for ppl my age to have Kidney Cancer it's mostly found in older adults....

    I hope you mean 3.3cm!  Mine was about 4cm and was removed along with my right kidney two weeks ago.

    I would have preferred to have kept some of the kidney, but it is all gone now and the chance of the cancer returning is very low.

    Your chances of a long and healthy life are really quite good.

    But it is still a shock.  My emotions have been up and down since I first found out about it.

    There is a lot of experience on this site and it is here just for you, so feel free to ask or tell anything.

    Not fair being diagnosed with Kidney Cancer so young. At 3.3 cm (the size of a small golf ball) your prognosis for a full recovery from the surgery alone is excellent. Being young makes your recovery easier.

    Although not common others your age have joined our group.

    I am 30 years old and got diagnosed with RCC a couple months back, similar in size with yours (I think you meant 33mm), but grade IV. I suspect yours will be of lower grade, which is way more common and has better prognosis. It is tough being diagnosed with RCC at our age, which indeed is more common in elderly population, but I think eventually all of us will come to accept it as it is. Life goes on. On the bright side, we do recover faster, I was able to go back to the gym 6 weeks after my nephrectomy. 

    Also, there can still be a small chance that the tumor is a benign oncocytoma (5-10%) or of a histological cell type with better prognosis (eg chromophobe). You never really know until you receive the pathology report.
