Alcohol Ablation for thyroid cancer

I would like to hear of experiences anyone might have had with alcohol ablation injection treatment for recurrent Papillary thyroid cancer nodules.  My son is considering this treatment as he has had 2 surgeries with 1 radioisotope treatment and it looks like he may be RAI resistant at this point. His doctor says Mayo Clinic and M. D. Anderson do this treatment and it is an option for him.  I've read good reports.   Would like to know the experiences of others with this treatment at both of these clinics.

    In my experience, it was marginally painful.  Not because of the injection itself, but in the way that a fine needle biopsy is painful. It left a small bruise and was sore with decreasing intensity for about a week.  Nothing in the grand scheme of things.  It's important to find a highly-skilled and experienced practioner because if the ethanol were to leak out of the nodule/needle, I'm told it would be extremely painful as it would burn and kill the tissue it touches.  Go to Mayo Clinic, they pioneered the procedure and it's the best hospital in the country.

    Is there any benefit to having Mayo Cliic retest my thyroglobulin or should I have it retested at Carol Spencers lab at USC?

    After years of my thyroglobiln being non detectable, it came back this time at .1

    My TSH was 13 and I was antiboide negative.

    ANy thoughts would be greatly apprecaited.
