margins

Hey guys,

So its two weeks until my 1 year MRI and followup.  I went back and looked at my path report again.  Its nothing new but still concerns me.  So, I thought I would vent on here and see if anyone else has this on report.  The tumor was deep in the kidney, stage one but on the renal vein and surgeon could get no margin on the the part of tumor that was on vein.  He said the tumor was enucleated off the vein.  (scooped off)

Anyone else have no margin on a portion of the tumor?  All around it was a .5 cm margin just not on the area against the vein.  Still worries me even though he said he got it.  Path says renal parenchymal margin is not involved but there is not a margin all the way around.  Also says pseudo capsule is intact on gross examination.

Coming up on the MRI and oncologist visit makes it scary again.  Will see surgeon in March.

Kim

    Phone your Oncologist

You can live without this extra stress. They will change their mind. Have they told you why? Is it their budget? Do they know a chapwho does it cheaper on a polaroid?

    Margins

I did not have clear margins on part of the tumor that was cut out of the lower pole of my right kidney.  Doctor said that a small portion of the cut had microscopic margins not clear.  They feel any cancer cells left were killed during the caterizing as they cut.    He feels confident in this and said they would watch closely during my six month scans.  My cancer was chromophobe.

    Good luck with your check-up

    ...

Just said not approved by aetna and they would notify the dr. I'm calling tomorrow  the surgeon/ urologist ordered the mri and oncologist said OK that was fine with him. If I can't get mri because insurance will not pay hopefully a ct will be approved.  True I definitely don't need this stress.

Hi Kim, my margin concerns me

Hi Kim, my margin concerns me too. My tumor situation was similar to yours. It was a 3.2 cm Partially Cystic/Solid tumor and I believed the surgeon scooped it out as well. It was quite deep and close to the vein, the shortest margin was only "0.48mm" at the tumor bed. My urologist told me that the width doesn't matter for kidney cancer as long as the margin is negative. Hope he is right.
