Depressed
Yes! Many with a cancer diagnosis and treatment are depressed. If you have three types of cancer, i would think you would have every right to be depressed. It's ok. It is not unusual. Please tell your medical team about your depression, because they are prepared to help. I am on an antidepressant-we adjusted the dosage a bit, but it helps.

I just feel so sad they tarted me on a antidepressant I just haven't felt this sad until now...I've seen a therapist since being diagnosed in July but didn't start crying until after my surgery

After shocks
I am told that the DX hits us hardest once the initial treatment stops - for many of us, it is after surgery and then radiation or chemo. For you, it is after surgery because you already battled your way thru chemo/radiation. I am very sorry. Your feelings are normal, you are not alone. Try to aim for one "good" thing per day - even just 5 minutes of light that makes you feel a tiny bit like your old self.

So sorry to hear about you
So sorry to hear about you having to deal with three types of cancer. Who wouldn't be depressed? I'm glad you are seeing a therapist. Give yourself some time to get over all this. I didn't feel happy until 2 years had passed and I only had breast cancer. Keep us posted and take care, Hugs, Anna

Take it minute by minute
Your going through a tough time. Your going fast and furious with little time to grieve one thing before you have to think of the next. It is ok to be depressed. Very normal. Take it a step at a time. Be kinder to yourself. Take all the help you can get. Prayers going up for you. HUG

Thank you so much for the kind words and Merry Christmas!!
I'm home from the hospital and I am still crying especially when I see my mastectomy incision and have to change my temporary ileostomy stuff but I have just been letting myself cry!! Thank you all for your kind words and for letting me know I'm okay for feeling like I do!! I hear it from my therapist but it means so much more from y'all!! I have to start my fourth round of chemo/radiation on Monday and I sure don't want to but I have sons and grandsons I love and who love me so I'll buck up and go!! I sure hope all of y'all have a Merry Christmas!!
Hugs and again many many thanks!!

Oh man!
You were dealing with the ileostomy and chemo, the ileostomy is a visable side effect of the anal cancer and the chemo makes you feel like crap. Radiation, too? That alone would send almost anyone over the edge. Then you have breast surgery and have to see that? My heart goes out to you and wish I could help in some way. My residuals from having 2 cancers (breast and uterine) are now simply scars, but going through it was pretty depressing for me. Truly what helped me most was the ability to connect with others via this group and to vent to women who understood. Someone always did. I did not get that understanding from most of my friends who wanted me to just look at the bright side (and I could see none at the time). I hope we can really hear your distress, because honestly, people who haven't been there do NOT get it!
Keep up the meds and counseling and keep coming here. BTW, there is a website called imermanangels.org. They can connect you with someone with the same diagnoses - now, I'm not sure about you being special and all that, but it is amazing how they can find someone to talk to who has been there. You reached out to us, perhaps there is some help at Imerman's Angels, too.
