33hours post surgery
Well I made it thank y'all for your thoughts and prayers. I'm about 33 hours post surgery they worked on me for almost 9 hours. I have a mastectomy to my left breast which my breast surgeon thought she could do a lumpectomy like she did on my right breast but no deal and then I have a temporary ileostomy and will have it for 8 weeks my colon surgeon did the ileostomy because he wanted my anus to have a little time to heal its burned after doing 18 weeks of radiation/chemo and because I've had diarrhe forever I can't remember day when I didn't have diarrhea so that's kind of that ive seen the stoma and what my incision on well now my left chest today and well I've cried so much today that my eyes hurts I knew it would all happen but darn it's still tough!! That's kind of all I guess, they sat me up today and that's about all that's happened except asking for pain medicine!!!

Thank you so much for the update so soon after your surgery. Bless you, you've certainly been through a lot. I'm sorry that a lumpectomy was not an option for you. As for the ileostomy, I'm presuming this is temporary? I hope you will adjust to it okay and that you won't have to have it for too long. Rest up and get out of that hospital soon! I send healing thoughts and prayers.

Kmessier.....Kmessier said:Walked today
Just thought I'd say that I'm doing better got up and walked today. Having a problem with just being sad and crying .... Did anyone have a problem like that?!?! I just feel like I lost something and I'm so sad!!!!
I am so sorry for your feelings of loss, yes, I too remember feeling some of that. (Maybe even still do several years later at times) I have had my ostomy for over 5 years and had a double mastectomy about 4 1/2 years ago!!
Hey, but we could compare scars I suppose!
It is a genuine loss to have these surgeries and to feel some sadness over losing something that you've had all your life, something that for years in one way or another has contributed to who you are, and I think I would worry more if you didn't feel somewhat this way. I can't say how long that feeling may last, we are all different. Sometimes when I'm getting dressed, especially for something special, those feelings briefly return and sometimes more as anger at the whole situation.....but they don't last now. I am pretty accepting of change and try to see the good in otherwise unfortunate situations, but that isn't always easy. Give yourself some time to adjust and be ok with your grief for a while, its still very fresh!
For me, joining a couple different support groups was very helpful. I went to a couple groups for people with breast cancer as well as an ostomy support group. Somehow just meeting people in the same boat helps a lot and makes me feel like even though I have challenges, they don't seem quite so big and bad when others share the same.
Please take care of yourself, eat, sleep, get some exercise as permitted, and stay in touch here.....we're with you!
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as you move forward.

I agree with katheryn. What you are feeling now is probably normal--something everyone and anyone would go through after your extensive surgery. I think support group(s) is a good idea. I would also say that after a certain period of time, if your feelings do not begin to lift, seek out someone to talk to. In the meantime, focus on recovering physically, eat well, be as active as possible, do the things that you enjoy. I think you'll soon realize that, while some things may have changed, there are so many other things that have not. I wish you all the very best. Take care.

May God bless your son for his service to our country and for being such a good son to you. He is right--you must soldier on. I sure the mountain in front of you seems insurmountable at times but you can do this--so that your son will continue to have his mom in his life. Although we here can only support you virtually, we are here for you. I send prayers and hugs.

As you can tell by my username, I am not a fan of pain, either physical or emotional. I am sorry that you are in pain for the holidays and hope that you recover as quickly as possible.
Virtual hugs and chocolates!
