Double tonsillectomy for single enlarged tonsil waiting for results! Help please!

Hi all, not been diagnosed with anything. Waiting on biopsy results post tonsillectomy a week ago today. Presented at my gp in early October with flu like symptoms and severe sore throat which i thought was something I picked up from my wife who has the same and lost her voice for a week. i was sent away with cold medication and told to come back in 2 weeks time which i did, but this time I had noticed that my right tonsil was larger than my left which was hardly noticeable. i was then given a weeks worth of antibiotics which not work and by this time my symptoms had increased to include ear pain (ie ringing), pain when swallowing food, jaw pain, eye pain, feeling light headed, dazed, pain in chest, indigestion, stomach cramps, acid reflux, night sweats, blocked nose, fatigue, loss of appetite and etc. I though I had lumps all over my neck but then not obvious. Presented myself to Er where they scoped me and said they don't see anything nasty but would refer me to ent which happened within 2 weeks. I  had an MRI scan of the neck, ultra sound of the neck lymph glands, ct scan of abdomen, barium swallow xray all of which all came back negative. Blood tests were all fine too. I was then offered a tonsilectomy, plus examination of my pharynx, larynx and esophagoscopy with biopsies. Now I am waiting for the results and recovering from surgery which is tough in itself. If I get ill, will lose everything including my home as I don't have insurance to speak of. someone mentioned that an MRI or an ultra sound would have picked up something if I there was something sinister. Is this true? Any ideas or advice? Thank you.

    Welcome

    harrykklee,

Welcome to the H&N forum, sorry that you are here on Turkey Day.

Even if all the scans, MRI, PET, CT, Ultra Sound do or don’t pick up anything, your biopsy is normally the definitive answer.

Many of us had only a lump to sound the alarm, NO pain.

Many of your symptoms you mentioned could be the stress put on your nerves from all of this.  That is good, if it turns out to be nothing, you will be relieved.

It has happened with others on here, after testing they are determined to be in the clear. I hope that happens to you.

Thanks Matt for your kind reply.

    much obliged
