Just curious if anyone here has got kidney cancer from years of PPI use (proton pump inhibitors for reflux)?

    That would be yes, unfortunately

Dodger21 - Add me to the list of people who developed RCC after 15 plus years of uninterupted PPI use.  I was diagnosed with GERD a long time ago and took just about every medication, changed my diet, and still showed no improvement.  I even continued to take them after my renal CA diagnosis.  Only a endoscopy/colonoscopy a few months after my partial nephrectomy revealed I had both celiac and gastritis (not what you expect after years on PPIs). Once my celiac symptoms were addressed through a gluten free diet, I lost weight and my GERD has improved.   The evidence supporting a connection between long-term PPI use and kidney CA is real and growing.  Patients who have been on PPIs or antacids for more than a year and still have symptoms need to check out other reasons.  Be persistent.

    Thanks

    hi Talmidah,

thanks heaps for replying. This is all new to me sorry, so could you explain what RCC stands for?

i feel a bit bummed that in 2011 I was diagnosed with Barrett's oesophagus with low grade dysplasia, which is pre cancerous cells. I was told the only way to prevent it becoming full blown cancer was to take PPI s for the rest of my life.  Well, 5 years down the track and I'm still on them and now this!

Preventing cancer in one pre cancerous organ leads to cancer in another! Go figure!

    Add me to the list

I've been on a PPI for about 10 years now and I got RCC.  I know there is a link between PPI and renal function.  I've been trying to ween myself off of the PPI, but it's not easy.  I'm down to 10mg of Prilosec once a day.
