Hey, all,

Had my Ultrasound, X-ray and blood work done this morning. 

But now I just received a call from the imaging department and they want me to come back tomorrow morning so the doctor can get a "live look" at something.... obviously this has me concerned. They wouldn't really say where or what but she did tell me not to be "overly concerned" and that sometimes they just want a better look at something. 

Anybody else have any experience with something Like that? Obviously I'm losing it a little bit.

My only comparison to this experience is with mammograms and ultrasounds.  I have been called back for a better "live look".  In those instances, my "live look" by the physician came with a negative result, thank God!  But I won't lie to you, the stress level until the doctor gives that news is off the chart!

I will be praying for you, please update when you can.

Something Similar Happened to Me

Hi Jay.  My experience is a little different from yours.  Mine started when a routine physical uncovered microscopic amounts of blood in my urine (which had never been there before and has never been found since, which is spooky on its own).  A CT scan revealed a possible lesion on my right kidney, but the hospital where I had the CT done suggested an ultrasound to verify.  I went in for the ultrasound and the tech took the readings, then left for a little while and came back and said "The radiologist wants me to take a few more readings".  Of course, my first thought was, "Oh, *(&%, I'm going to die."  He took the readings and then disappeared again and this time, the radiologist returned.  Which, of course, led me to think, "Oh *(&%, not only am I going to die, I'm going to die in two hours."  He took more readings and then said, "We can't find anything."  His suggestion was to get another CT scan.

I guess imagery isn't necessarily an exact science.

It's more than likely nothing.

Maybe it's what they didn't see...

So I am wondering if maybe the ultrasound tech missed something or didn't get the view the doctor wanted.

Either that they saw something or they didn't see enough. I'm hoping it's the latter obviously.

I don't know why medical staff always are so vague - being vague while being asked for another "live look" is going to make you fret either way!! Personally I would rather they were completely honest. Having said that it could just be them being thorough. I have had many sleepless nights since my nephrectomy, due to fretting over the "vague requests" and I always come out all right on the other end. Here's hoping for the best possible outcome for you!!

We will be anxiously awaiting your report. Here's to a restful night's sleep!

I hate the vagueness too. I'm a big boy. Just tell me what's going on. We saw something we want to get a better look at... we didn't get enough information to make a confident diagnosis... whatever. And that sleep will be fitful at best but I will try! Thanks

Wait Time

Not only it causes unnecessary anxiety before seeing the report,  it also slows down the treatment process. I heard a story from a patient where he waited almost two weeks to see his GP after his US, waited another 6 weeks for CT, another week for report, 2 months to see the specialist and then finally 4 months wait for the surgery. The tumor was already 30% bigger compare to US. That is regarding diameter, in terms of tumor volume, it was doubled.

For cancer control, time is always one of the most significant factor.

Crisis averted

Hey, all,

I appreciate the support during my 18 hours of terror but it seems that it was unfounded. The ultrasound tech said that there were some "lobulations" of my remaining kidney that looked a little weird to the doctor so they just wanted to get some extra pics of the area to make sure there was nothing hiding in there.  They actually told me the results right then and there... all clear.

Well, Jay, you brought your concern here, so let US take some of this anxiety from you. You need to be able to enJOY life NOW!

No one likes to hear, come back now for a closer look. I got that with a mammogram. Luckily, they had a radiologist come in immediatately afterwards to reassure me. There WAS something there, scar tissue, from a breast infection, but it looked like a lesions.

So I'll take some of your anxiety from you. I know, I know, we're human and not knowing is cruel sometimes.

That is some great news to wake up to today.

Whew!

Great news, Jason.  Stomps quote rings so true, but isn't it hard not to fear this cancer?  We all try hard to put it out of our head, but in reality it's there.  I'm hopeful that outcomes like yours give us more hope and lessen the burden of our anxiety.  Thanks for sharing the news.
