3 years is coming up: Trepidation of moving to annual scans

in Kidney Cancer #1

Hi everyone, 

I've been reading carefully all the posts, I just have trouble on my phone these days so can't post much. In an effort to work less at home and spend more time with the family (I'm a teacher so we work a lot at home) I leave my laptop at work. Sooo, long story short while I read everything, I'm not posting much but think of you all. 

So my husbands oncologist tried to move him to yearly scans  at 2 years. We declined, continued every 6 months until now where he will have his 6th CT Scan in October. 

He was Stage T3A with renal sinus and perinephratic invasion extensive necrosis. But, also chromophobe, so there's that upside. 

I'm convinced he will be NED in October (holy crap the SCANXIETY CAN GET EASIER!!!!) but I'm worried about moving to yearly scans.

    That seems quick to me

    considering his pathology, but I'm no expert.  Interesting how things vary so much.

    Good to SEE you again!! I  can appreciate your concerns, but did you ask if he can have labs done more frequently than 1x a year? I learned that there are cancer markers, I believe its called, that picks up increase in cancer cells via a lab test. Ask about that possibility.

    You know, I knew he had bloodwork but I always assumed it was for his kidney. This is good info. THANK YOU!!!

    I think 3 years is "standard"

    Yeah, I think he's going by the "standard" except I have no idea why he thought 2 years would be reasonable. Since he never gave us a rationale and just said "Sure no problem" when we asked to continue the scans I never though to ask why he thought we should stop. I really really like this doctor, but I know he isn't a specialist and have always planned to get a different one if my husband ever ended up with metastatic disease.

    Yes, it is for kidney

    Yes, it is for kidney funciton and I was told to look for those cancer markers.
