No news = good news, right??? X-posted

I posted in Ovarian cancer, but there's not a lot of traffic...

Long story short-- I had/have stage IV ovarian cancer.  I finished front line in June.  I had my first appointment post-cancer appointment in August (near the end of it).  My doctor ordered a PET Scan.  I finally got in on Friday (the machine was broke).  The tech told me that the radiologist would read it on Friday, and the doctor would have results on Monday.  I should hear either way Monday.  No call.  I called the office, and I did not get a return call.  When I was first diagnosed, my doctor called me on a Tuesday night with the biopsy results, so I'm assuming no news, is good news.  Does it normally take this long to get back to a patient?  The wait is absolutely killing me.

Waiting does suck, doesn't it?!

The time varies, but I had my PET scan done on a Saturday, it was read on Saturday and my doctor let me know all was clear on the following Monday. I would think you would hear something by tomorrow if the radiologist did indeed read it on Friday.  Fingers crossed for good news!

Yeah, my oncologist has always been good about getting back to me, so I really am thinking this means that it's clear.

Waiting can be so hard

I hope your wait is over soon and it is all good news.  When I had my one and only PET scan in January 2014. The results were first read at one hospital and then sent to my Gyno-Onc in another city.  The scan was on Monday and the results didn't end up on his desk until the very end of the day On Friday.  He actually called my home on Saturday and left a message on my answering machine that he had them and would review them and call on Monday.  I waited all day Monday at school and didn't hear anything.  Later that night he called and said he didn't want to bother me at school.  In my case, it was not good news.  Doctors can be very caring.

It's the same hospital system...

My scan was in a different city, but it's the same hospital system, and everything is "on-line," so once its read the doctor will get it.

I got a call, and am meeting with my oncologist on Friday.

I'm sorry the news wasn't what you had hoped for.  But please come back and let us know how your appointment on Friday goes and what the plan moving forward is.  There are so many more treatment options than there used to be.

Will do.  

If I have to go on chemo I just hope that I don't have to do dose dense.  My husband is in the military and is at school right now.  We are living separately.

I figure it's bad, but not treatable

I am a younger survivor (40), I feel pretty good (despite the news). I ran 5 miles yesterday. The only bad thing is I feel a tightening/pressure in my lower chest near the same area as my pleural effusion.

Feeling lots better..

I feel a LOT better today than I did yesterday.  I found out that the doctor calls ALL patients in to give results.  I was also concerned about them doing it on Friday when he normally isn't in the office, but I can understand why he did it-- I told the nurse I was anxious, and he is a survivor himself, so I don't think he wanted me to wait over the weekend.  Also he knows hubby comes home every weekend, and I think he was trying to catch my husband with me.  Either way, I don't have symptoms, I feel really good (except for the nausea, bowel issues from nerves).  I ran 5 miles today.

I am glad you are feeling better.  Sounds like very good reasons why he wants you to come in.  Rest easy all.will be good

Well, it's not good, but not horrible...

The cancer did not respond to initial therapy.  I'm going to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas for a clinical trial.  The doctor said I'm a prime candidate and only sends 10 people a year there for treatment.  If that doesn't work he said there are a TON of options.  He was very positive, but with the caveat that I will likely be on some form of treatment for the duration of my life.  So please pray that they find something that will get rid of this beast forever.  I have a 12-year-old son with autism and a 10-year-old.

Sometimes just knowing can

Sometimes just knowing can set your mind at ease a little. So sorry it turned out this way,but it sounds like there are good plans.  I hope everything works out for you and the new treatment works.  One thing, treatments are improving and getting better.  Hopefully the right one will come along soon for all of us.

Options

Options is the name of the game.  Sounds like your doctor is in this with you and that can make a world of difference.  We should all have such a positive doctor!
