Cold Caps

Hi  I'm new to this board.

I was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma cervical cancer in April 2016.  my surgeon elected to do a radical hysterectomy first. Since I am 59, it did not matter much to me to lose my "girlie parts."  Unfortunately, they found positive lymph nodes. I have since had 6 rounds of cisplatin, 25 external radiations and two internal radiaton treatments.  As many have described on this board, it was miserable  the radiation causing the most misery and side effects.  i still have issues with my bowles..... But have been healing from the initial treatments

Last week I started additional chemo treatments.  i starts with just carboplatatin and the follow up neulasta injection.  The bone pain, headache pain, fatigue have been very debilitating.....My next few treatments are with Carbo and a taxol drug.  I'm sure it will be a rough week after.

I am going to use COLD CAPS with the carbo/taxol infusions to try and save my hair.  I am wondering if and how many of you have tried the cold caps and what your experience is.. What brand you used, success rate, etc.  I've talked to a few women in my area who used them and have had success keeping most of their hair.

It is all very anxiety provoking.  My last week has been rough.  I know the next treatment will be worse, and i am still dealing with issues from the radiation.....

Thank you for any replies.

Liz

    Hi, Liz

if you don't get a respnse here, pop over to the uterine board.  There has been some discussion there.

    Liz, treatment is pretty

Liz, treatment is pretty tough and the side effects that go along with it are tough too.  I was not offered the neulasta shot but some of the other ladies on chat boards have recommended taking Claritin to minimize the side effects of that drug.  You may want to consider asking if it is absolutely necessary - just something to consider.  There was quite a discussion in the link to the thread below which I hope can help you:
