The leathery part is difficult
I called mine "gator skin," so rough and ugly. I kept creaming and creaming it, making it softer and softer and then I would exfoliate the rough bits with a gauze pad. Looks like little bits of dirt when it comes off. Yes, the darker parts will fade in time, mine looks fine now. I highly tout Fab First Aid Beauty Repair Cream, that helped a lot, too.

Good to know they will fade.
Good to know they will fade. It's getting darker by the day and I don't want any clothing touching the area. Couple parts look pink and raw. Not sure if it is raw.
Susan, how long after rads before you started working on the leathery skin? As always, you guys rock! Thanks for the reassurance.

I had two very raw patches on my neck. After rads they scabbed over and I creamed them until the scabs loosened and dropped off. Probably about two weeks later I started to work on my gator skin and got most of it off in a week or so. Lise, message me your addy and I'll mail you some FirstAid Beauty Repair Cream when I'm back in the office Tuesday.

Burn Cream & Lots of Moisturizing.
I third Matts opinion. My rads were at lunchtime. Aloe gel afterwards for a couple hours. Than the Silvadene burn cream a couple times than GoldBond repeatly till bedtime. Used gauze to remove blackened skin as it sloughed off. Lots of GoldBond cream. Rubbed cream in constantly. I also had a week off which helped the healing. Starting 3rd month post-treatment and neck shows no signs of darkening, discoloration, burn or radiation effects. I also feel your skin type may determine reactions also.

They told me at MDA no
They told me at MDA no Silvadene until I complete my rads. Wonder why? I have what they call olive complexion When I'm tanned but the rads are causing deep red to dark brown behind my neck. My chin is darkened and then I have the red, raw patches. I am so grateful for this weekend!!! Now what on earth to wear to sleep? How did you all manage with pillows? I tossed a lot last night.
