RECENTLY DIAGNOSED.NOW WHAT?
I was very recently diagnosed with Thyroid cancer while having an scan for my heart. I have been feeling extremely tired & just have no energy. I have also been going through a TON of other issues not mediaccly related so before I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer I just assumed it was stress but now i am thinking its the cancer. i have been on Synthroid for hypothyroid for years & Dr says even though I have cancer my levels are good. How does that work? I also have been verry forgetful for awhile (again i thought it was stress). Are these things normal? Does the cancer cause these types of effects? Thank you so much for any insight you can offer,Kathy

My dad had medullary thyroid
My dad had medullary thyroid cancer. His numbers were fine until it encased his entire neck. Now he doesn't have a thyroid anymore, but they somehow got it all out...

My Surgery is schedule for August.. UGG such a long time to wait but I have other things I need to get done first so thats the date my DR. & I came up with. So sorry to hear about the lung Mass. Your luck sounds just about parallel to mine. Yes it is very overwhelming & I'm not sure if I'm supposed to act like it's no big deal or it is a big deal....The only thin i know for sure is that i am tired of carrying around the extra weight I have gained (is that normal?) & being so tired all the time. I hope the surgery helps with both of those things. Prayers for you as well.

Sorry to hear about the
Sorry to hear about the cancer. I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma in December of 2013. I had a total thyroidectomy in Jan 2014. All my levels were right where they were supposed to be but like you I had no energy and could not focus very well. In march of 2014 they did an ablation dose of radoactive iodine to kill whatever thyroid cells were left. Both the surgery and the rai ablation was not too bad at all. It took quite awhile to get the right dosage of levo but now I am feeling pretty good. I had to have whole body scans every 9 months but now I am cancer free and don't have to do another scan for 5 years. They check my thyroglobulin levels once a year. I willbe praying for you. I know you will come through it just fine

Thank you Beth for the thoughts & prayers. I to will be doing the iodine in Sept. I live in a fairly small town of 21,000 people so I will have my thyroidectomy in Aug.& then the Ablasion in Sept. did you gain or lose any weight before/after all of your stuff? I have gained about 20lbs over the last 6-9mos & I am a chunky grandma anyway & had been losing weight fairly well & then BAMMM here comes the weight again I can't wait until this all done & Over with.Again Thank you...

I gained weight before it all
I gained weight before it all began and then I had to fight like the devil just to maintain my weight but now all of a sudden I am losing weight. I am having female problems; post menopausal bleeding and an abnormal pap.

oh no Beth
I have gained about 20lbs over the last few months. No matter what I do I can not lose it. I am very hopeful that I will be one of those lucky few that LOSE weight post surgery. After reading alot of these posts I realize I need to ask a lot more questions from my Drs. I know nothing of my Levels or which ones they say are normal etc.
I went through a complete Hystorectomy a few years back because of bad pap tests & other issues. lots of cysts were found & benign tumors.Hope they get yours resolved quickly & easily.

Thyroid Cancer
Hi how are you? When I was first diagnosed it wasn't like I went to the doctor to get a regular check up the tumor had grown so fast and they died it closed my airway and I woke up throughout the night gasping for air I couldn't breathe so my has been rushed me to the hospital they did an afternoon biopsy and it came back positive for papillary thyroid cancer with metastasis to the lymph node. Prior to my diagnosis I was feeling extremely fatigued and tired all the time I had even gotten our B 12 injection shot because I'm lots of energy not knowing that it was my thyroid that was causing the symptoms. Once after being diagnosed I had a total thyroidectomy and then I received radioactive iodine radiation I was hospitalized when I did the radiation and I was in complete isolation doing the radiation I can be around anyone my son my husband or family. After surgery that's when I really began to feel the symptoms I was so very fatigued and tired all the time because after surgery I wasn't allowed to take the medication Synthroid until after my radiation. Your thyroid controls mainly everything in your body so forgetful near the tiredness is all contributed to that it controls your metabolism so these are side effects of having this illness. I pray that all goes well with you and your treatment and I will be thinking of you and your family.

I was told when they
I was told when they monitored my numbers they wanted it stablized. When I get stressed my mind goes blank. And you must be overloaded with this news. I don't understand why they had you on synthroid for years.
Has your doctor told you of plans to take care of this? Is he an endocrinolgist or will you be referred to one? You could also ask for a referral to a different one if you have one now, for a second opinion.
I would think they would remove what is cancerous somehow, have they talked to you about that?
When mine started, I kept thinking something was stuck in my throat, they did many biopsies which were inconclusive, they finally had to remove half of my thyroid to discover I had cancer, then they removed the other side. And now I am on synthroid permanetly. I was very tired through all of this, the stress took a toll.
I hope you are finding a way to relax.
