Brachytherapy For Base/Posterior of Tongue
Hi! I have just been dx with a base of tongue tumor (posterior in oropharynx:not oral tongue) and was offered the choice of IMRT with "mild chemo" or HDR brachytherapy and I was just wondering if anyone on CSN have received this treatment and how it has impacted your swallowing? This will be my second time going thro radiation. The first time was for tonsil cancer with IMRT in 2007. Thanks!

Hello
I am sorry you have to be here. When my mom was diagnosed with a recurrent tongue cancer she was offered brachytherapy however she ended up not having to go throuh with it. Supposely this type of treatement has less side effects compering to a regular radiation as it only hits the exact spot of the tumor. There are few people here that had it done so I hope they will add more info.
What ever happens dont give up. I am thinking this is still curable since they are giving you treatment options.Good luck!

Thanks Joanna for your words of encouragement! Yes I was so relieved with my Petscan and MRI findings! I am so sorry that your Mom had to go through this.
