Heart problems linked to Kidney Disease and vise versa?

Hi everyone!

I'm back after yet another surgery (unrelated to kidney cancer) that blew the lid off of the pain scale sending me once again into afib. The pain was worse than the worse kidney stone pain I've ever had!

I started having afib every time I suffered an acute kidney stone event and was never able to bounce back to where I was before the attack. My heart was also struggling and getting worse through the years as my cancer progressed. It still struggles if I push myself too much and I think it makes my kidneys work extra hard because of all of the fluid that backs up.

Then in November of 2015 I think I had a sudden intestinal blockage that caused problems with my heart, kidneys and liver because everything was shut down by the intense and painful pressure. I could feel it work its way up towards my heart. I have no idea what caused it since it cleared up in a day but it took 45 days for all of the weird after effects to go away. 

I keep seeing a direct link between my heart and kidneys and did some research into it. I found a study that has identified different types of syndromes between the heart and kidney link and was wondering if anyone else has noticed a correlation between the two in their health struggles? It also mentions links to intraabdominal pressure.  Could I be onto something?

    Kidney Disease,

    All of us with 1 kidney have a decrease in Kidney functon which makes our GFR lower. Other health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure also contribute to decreased kidney function and a lower GFR.

    My doctors have never

    My doctors have never discussed what to expect with a partial kidney. When I asked the pa said everything should be normal. Honestly, it's been a struggle to feel good since my surgery. Do you feel the same way?

    Partials

    Partials were not around when I got nephed almost 14 years ago. In theory if not in the real world partials will retain more kidney function than a full neph and hence less kidney disease.

    PonyWave, I'm so sorry you've been having health issues since your partial nehph. I can say I've been lucky. Aside from anemia that pops up now and then I have been pretty much the same as before surgery. Maybe you should see a nephrologist or cardiologist who could explain the link between kidney and heart.

    looking back

    at around the time my cancer was undiagnosed, by a couple years, I began having bouts of afib. I've been treated with flecainide and haven't had any issues.

    Heart Disease and Kidney Cancer

    I am new to this link and am so glad I joined.  It's nice, as unfortunate as it is to need this type board, to be able to talk to people who understand what I'm going through.  I was diagnosed with AFIB last August.  After trying different medications, I had a cardiac ablation in December and 3 days later was diagnosed with uteral cancer.  I had surgery and have been taking chemo for bladder cancer since March.  My AFIB is under control now.  I still take pills, but at least with the ablation and pills my heart is ok.
