I don't have ovarian cancer but UPSC - a uterine cancer that is treated like ovarian cancer.  I saw this article this morning that Johnson & Johnson was ordered to pay for knowingly selling a product they knew as far back as the 1980s could cause cancer.

    It must go back

    farther than that because I've known since I was a young woman, well before my daughter was born in '73.  By then, they were also discouraging its use on babies because it could be inhaled.

    They will find it goes much further back than 73.  My mother and I used "Shower to Shower" powder since the mid 60's It was all the rage and in Texas in the summer you put powder EVERYWHERE...HEAVY !  Mother used Johnson and Johnson baby powder on me several times a day way back in 1951, during the days of cloth diapers.  They knew the talc was bad to breath many years before that.  Debra

    And I don't think anything came of it.  I, too, was a 'baby powder/talc' baby.  I was born in 1954.  We even used it way beyond that, as many of you did.  On a sumburn, for 'cooling', etc., etc.  I had OVCA twice.  Does anyone know if anyone was ever able to support the claim and what came of it?  Just curious.

    Click on the link I posted.  Yesterday was the first lawsuit that the family of an ovarian cancer victim won and was awarded a cash settlement - $72 million from Johnson & Johnson!!  Of course J&J will appeal but it's a start.

    I have used

    powder all my life.  I'm sure my mom used it on me as a baby.  I used Shower to Shower and the kind in the round containers with a big powder puff.  That was a common gift back in the day.  My mom used it as much and of course longer than I did.  Strangely enough but thankfully at 91 she has never had cancer.  I guess it's the luck of the draw.  When I was pregnant with my son, I had a pre-birth meeting with the pediatrician.  He said I'm sure you are getting a lot of gifts of baby powder and lotion but put them all away.  He had me only use cornstarch on my son and I believe it was Eurcerin or Lubriderm cleanser.  

    Some years before my diagnosis I happened to read about talc and ovarian cancer.  I was using Johnson's baby powder (on myself) and immediately switched to the cornstarch only version which I'm still using.  I guess it was too late.  I suppose we can second-guess ourselves for a lot of our past actions but it is what it is.
