Chemo #30 started

i had the 1st of 5 infusions  Of Topotecan today.  the rest will follow Tues-Friday.  Luckily the infusion is very short with only 1 premed.  Altogether it lasted only 1 hour.  It does effect the blood so I will get the Neulasta patch thing on Friday. 

My CA125 only increased by 4 points from 93-97.  I'll call that good news.

CTscan showed small growth on existing tumors, a return of one in my neck closed to my aorta, and nothing that would make my back hurt.

MRI showed a small stress factor on the left side of my spine near my tail bone.  My back hurts on the right side???.  My doctor is willing to admit that he has no clue what is causing the back pain.  And got me an appointment with an orthopedist next week.  He was happy that ther was no signs that the cancer had metastisized to my bone.  For now I need to change my attitude about pain meds.

    Except for being in pain, it sounds like you got some pretty good news.  Hopefully the orthopedist will have some idea why your back hurts and a way to fix it.

    I hope your remaining infusions were easy like today and the Neulasta works for you!!

    Glad to hear 30th (!) infusion started off well

    I haven't heard of your chemo medicine before - I hope it is smooth sailing for you this week.  Too, I hope the orthopedic doc will have answers for your back pain, and until then, your pain is somewhat abated w meds.

    That is pretty darn good news

    That is pretty darn good news Lou Ann! So happy there are no mets to your bones. I wonder how you got that fracture though? Maybe the stress from all the chemo? Regardless, I hope the orthopedist can help identify the cause and provide some relief. Sending lots of prayers and positive energy your way for this to be the  "the one" that kicks cancer to the curb for you. I hope the side effects are easier on you.

    Glad to hear that these infusions are short after those marathon ones you were dealing with.  That has to be much easier to deal with.

    I do hope the orthopedist can figure out what is going on with your back pain.  I can understand hating to take the pain meds, but at some point, they might be the best thing to do, albeit temporarily.

    Many, many, thanks to all of you

    I count this board as one of my many blessings.  We all need an outlet were people understand what we are going through, good and bad.  Only here can small gains or even stability be celebrated.  Hugs and prayers to all of you,  Lou Ann

    Lou Ann, I am very sorry you are having such a bumpy ride but I am grateful that you are sharing, how else would I have known the level of your strength? Stay strong, I am wishing hoping and praying that  for you and us all NED is around the bend.Please try a bit of pain meds. it buys more smiles than frowns.Nuff love, Moli admiring your quiet strength.

    I am starting to use oxicodone.  And the Dr. Gave me a perscription for oxicontin that is supposed to be a time release formula of oxicodone.  Medicare did not approve it and the hospital is fighting it.  If they can't get approve they will give me a perscription for something else.  I am getting some relievewith the Oxicodone.  My Dr. Also said I need to take it when I need too.  Hugs and prayers, Lou Ann

    What the h*ll is wrong with

    What the h*ll is wrong with Medicare??  Maybe some of those bureaucrats would like to have that kind of pain....or THEIR loves ones?  Every paycheck, I pay 1.45% of my earnings and my employer (me because I own the company) also pays 1.45% into Medicare.  I vote to use my contribution to pay for a pain medication that works for cancer patients - especially Lou Ann, who, I believe, also pays a premium for that coverage!

    Here's hoping something helps.

    I agree that Medicare and insurance in general need to start paying more attention to pain.  It is so debilitating to me, and so liberating when it lessens and I can get sleep, so then I feel better.  I am praying that the chemo continues to be tolerable (whatever that means anymore), and most of all that it keeps things at bay.  Hugs Nancy
