What I got for Christmas UP-Date
My brother and I was talking last night when all of a sudden my hearing went out. Thinking that all it was is the batteries in my hearing aids I got up and changed them, that is when I realized it is not my hearing aids it was my hearing. I am not sure what happened but I went 100% totally deaf, I work up this morning but was able to hear only half as good as I use to. I guess I will need to see my ENT again be for the new year. I hate when that happens
And life just keeps moving on, just glad i am still alive.

Tim this recently happened to my husband
please talk to your ENT right away. From our experience the sooner you do a course of steroids, the greater your chance of gaining back some hearing. They may or may not be able to identify a cause. Sometimes it will resolve in 1-2 weeks. I hope it comes back for you!

Hearing loss
So sorry to hear that, Hondo. After only one chemo treatment (cisplatin), my hearing was diminished, so they cut me down to half doses. Even with that, my hearing was moderate to severe in one ear, and severe to profound in the other. I couldn't carry on a conversation, watch TV, or hear the phone. I had an audio test done, and hearing aids ordered, when upon my next visit to my ENT, he suggested trying tubes in my ears, before I invested a bunch of money in the hearing aids. VOILA!! Within 2 weeks, my hearing is vastly improved although not 100%. The fluid back up from the radiation seemed to be the culprit. I hope it can be that easy a fix for you as well. Happy New Year to all!!

Hearing
I had that happen a couple of months after my laryngectomy.
The ENT looked and didn't see anything. But, he isn't an ear doctor. So I went to see my ear doctor, and it was just fluid in my ear. Maybe because things drain different after yet another neck dissection. Anyway - I've had a tube in it for 18 months. Well over half the time it is leaking I have actually had a dry ear now for about a month - Finally.

rare
Hondo,
Sorry to hear about the hearing incident on the holidays. Hang in there and it'll hopefully clear up. You been here a long time and read a lot of posts and hearing rarely just goes out like that from a cancer related side effect. Wish you well getting it diagnosed or better yet, coming back as fast as it disappeared.

I hope by now you are feeling much better. you are always in my thought and prayers. I hope it is nothing too serious.
Tim,
I hope it all works out in your favor once the dust settles on your hearing. Please let us know what your ENT diagnoses. My guess is it's radiation related and hopefully only temporary.
A prayer goes out to you and everyone here who is in need. God needs good hearing to catch all of our prayers.

Good News
Went to see my audiologist today and guess what, yep she had me fixed up and hearing in no time. Somehow the tube that go to the ear canal from the hearing aid behind my ear got plugged. We are not sure why but if it happens again I will know what to check first.
Thank you all
