5 year "itch" and burn and some bleeding
hi all ... I'm coming up on 5 years post treatment. recently I've had an uptick in anal itching, burning, drainage. Does this ever go away and do you ever stop worrying about recurrence? What is your experience ... ? I read the article on chronic radiation damage ... And my MDs have told me "rad proctitis" only gets worse with time.
What is your butt like for those of you at or about 5 years post treatment?
thanks and happy holidays all!

I know when this happens it is troubling, considering some of those symptoms were the ones we had before our diagnosis. I will say first that it is quite common, however, that doesn't make it less scary. Your doctor is probably right--radiation proctitis. Or it could be something such as a hemorrhoid. But for some peace of mind, I would suggest calling his office tomorrow and relaying this to him. Try not to worry and just make your doc aware and see if any look-see is recommended. I hope it turns out to be nothing but irritation/inflammation.
Happy Holidays to you too!

LOL. My 5 year mark was 12/8. For the past week there has been bloodall over my underwear. I had a colonoscopy a month or so ago , so I am not worried. From what I have read some of us will molt for life. I often haveyellows and white discharge on my underwear from front to back and sometimes all over. It dries hard. This is the molting like a snake shedding its skin. Crazy and gross bit I hope it makes you feel better.

I'm over 4 years post treatment and have the burning once in awhile and occasional bleeding. I try to stay away from spicy foods. When it happens I smear diaper rash cream or aquaphor on my rear end. I still use my sitz bath. So you're not alone...

You're very welcome! It's comforting to know there's a place we can come to discuss our concerns and often times learn that we're not alone and sometimes facing the same side effects.
Take care!
