Rhinectomy--any advice?

Hello all-

This is my first time posting and attempting a new thread, so hopefully I am doing this correctly!

I am writing on behalf of my dad (69 y/o), as we just learned he will undergo a full rhinectomy next week. Everything has happened very quickly - he was first diagnosed with a nasal tumor in late May, followed by radiation, chemo, neck/lymph node dissection...so it's been a lot to process and we are trying to learn as quickly as we can.

We've been told that he won't be able to wear a prosthesis for 4 months post-op (they won't begin making it until after surgery), so I am wondering if there are any ways to cover the wound that may make that time a bit easier? The doctors suggested we use an eye patch but I can't imagine my dad feeling comfortable with people seeing him that way. I am trying to help him go through this with some dignity and I know he is concerned with having people see him as he recovers, especially his grandkids.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! We've gotten a lot of comfort by reading these posts as well as many great suggestions. There are so many bumps along the way to recovery but we will get there!

Thanks so much and best wishes to everyone.
