Open Sore
Hi All! I just had my 15 month all clear, I am so happy. I find it hard to come back here but I do stop by once in a while. I hate when I read bad news, this visit about Phrannie. It sucks.
At my follow-up visit my doctor would do a needle biopsy at my tumor site which is on my titanium jaw replacement. It has not healed, it is a tiny sore. My doc says that it can take up to a year to heal, right now there is a thin layer of skin. While looking like Robo cop sounds fun for Halloween I am a bit worried. The doc stated if it does not heal we could be looking at "tissue manipulation" or a skin graft from my arm. I wondered why would we do that, if this tiny sore is not healing why would either of these surgeries heal? He stated it is a possibility and concern. Has anyone else gone through anything like this? Any suggestions?
Thank you all and my best to everyone!
~Sonja

All Clear
Hi Sonja. All clear! Woo hoo! I hope the hole heals on its own soon. Years ago, my dad had a stubborn hole in his lower leg and went to the Wound Care center at St. Luke's where they were finally able to get it to heal. Maybe a wound specialist would be able to help you. I'm looking forward to our next breakfast!

Glad you checked in. Sorry you are having a monor set back and still have some healing or might even had a graff. You went through a lot and did so well. You will beat this setback with ease.

You don't want any area open for infection so do follow through. My jaw replacement failed after a few years and the titanium came out then the fibula was removed. I had a small opening (fistula) that I have been struggling with. I had a pectoral flap but the tissue fell apart and fistula did not close, thus a feeding tube. The remaining fistula is small and needs to be surgiccally roughed up to see if it will close but I keep having other issues preventing the surgery. Hopefully, once it closes the feeding tube will go too.

Open Sore
Happy Summer to everyone! I want to share my all clear at my appointment(it will be two years in August) and very exciting news, my open sore/hole has healed! I had an open hole in my neck from a fine needle biopsy that was not healing, from radiation is my understanding. That seemed crazy to me but even crazier was the possibility that it would still heal after twenty months. I am thrilled to say that it did!!! The human body is pretty amazing.
My best and love to everyone here. Keep moving forward. And to quote the wise Matt, "keep drinking water".
