    EPO?

BCBS also has an EPO. That's what I have. I didn't have to change anything, because so many doctors and institutions are in network with BCBS. (An EPO is like a PPO but you have to stay in network. It ends up being like an HMO.)

You can use Cobra I believe for up to some number of months after you lose your coverage I believe.

What HMO's are being offered? I have some friends with Kaiser with RCC that have gotten pretty good care. Most HMO will allow you to go out of their network/HMO for second opinions on serious issues if they don't have qualified specialists (or even very qualified specialists), so you can also look into that.

    Personal Insurance

You might also look into getting your own personal insurance and refusing your company plan. Some companies offer you some cash for refusing their insurance and you just have to prove you are getting it some other way (like through a spouse) but in your case you'd just go shop for your own. If affording it is an issue, I don't know if you can get an Affordable Care plan if you are offered a work plan but aren't happy with it or not.

    Best of luck to you.
